IMechE (Malaysia Branch) was formally inaugurated on 17 January 2001. The Malaysian branch is the newest IMechE branch with 500 members and joins six other international branches of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers with its head quarters based in UK. The objectives of the Society are:
To promote technical and professional development of members of the Institution residing in or visiting Malaysia, through meetings, other forms of communication and through close co-ordination with the headquarters of the Institution.
To arrange meetings for and to encourage members to prepare, discuss or present papers relating to the science of mechanical engineering and all its applications.
To arrange visits to works and places and objects of scientific interest relating to mechanical engineering.
To arrange joint meetings with other engineering bodies.
To achieve closer personal acquaintance and spirit of co-operation among Institution members in Malaysia
To provide a local point of contact with indigenous engineering societies on all matters of mutual professional and technical concern.

RANM 2009- The conference series entitled Recent Advances in Nonlinear Mechanics (RANM) is designed to gather leading researchers from three major areas of mechanics, namely, dynamics, fluids and materials. We are interested in both fundamental and applied problems, where nonlinearities or nonlinear interactions play major roles. The series is supported by the International Journal of Nonlinear Mechanics (IJNM) (http://ees.elsevier.com/nlm/), which is an official RANM publishing forum; in this context, selected papers of the conference will be invited to be published in a special issue of IJNM after review process organised by a Guest Editor.
Professors John M Willis (Cambridge University) and Giuseppe Rega (University of Rome “La Sapienza”) will deliver the opening and closing lectures respectively.
