About Us

Welcome to the IMechE in the East Midlands

Our Region covers a significant area of the country, stretching from Peterborough in the south, to the Humber estuary in the north and from Derby in the west to the Lincolnshire coast in the east.

We have over 5700 members in the Region, with numbers on the increase.  We provide a wide range of events aimed not only at updating members technical knowledge, but also at promoting engineering to the wider public.  With over 60 events planned in our programme each year, I'm sure that you will find something to meet your needs.

As the future of our organisation and the profession depends on our young engineers, the Region places a strong emphasis on developing Young Member activities.  We have thriving Young Member panels at work in the Derby/Nottingham and Peterborough Areas, these winning the YM Panel of the Year Award in 2000 and 2001 respectively, and the Leicester Area.

As well as appreciating the need to encourage Young Members we also acknowledge how important experience is in engineering and for this reason are always looking for established IMechE members to join our Area and Regional committees.

If you would like to take a more active role in the affairs of the Institution, please feel free to contact any of the Area Committee Chairmen of Secretaries.
