Welcome to the Worcester Area
The Worcester Area Committee aims to organise lectures, visits and other events to appeal to engineers throughout the county. We often work with other Institutions (such as the Institute of Engineering and Technology and the Institute of Physics who are active in our area) to provide events on different topics. We are experimenting with venues, with a plan to provide events in south Birmingham, Redditch/Bromsgrove, Worcester, Malvern, and Kidderminster/Stour so that engineers should find something on offer close to their work or home.
We hope you get a chance to come to at least one in each session - it is great to meet you. Please be assured of a warm welcome.
Our events (normally held on the second Monday or Tuesday of the month) are normally open to everyone, whether you are a practising engineer, retired, or thinking about becoming an engineer. We are pleased to see teachers and others from the education sector because engineering can be such a rewarding career choice and we are keen that schoolchildren are encouraged in the science and engineering field.
This site will be used to update you on events and activities being organised by the IMechE Worcester Area. I hope you find something of interest in your area and if you need further information please contact one of the event organisers or committee members whose details can be found under the Contacts link.
If you would like to offer a lecture or a visit, or if you have a suggestion that you would like us to follow up and organise, please feel free to contact a member of the committee. Better still, come to a committee meeting and join us!

An IET-organised event with an open invitation to IMechE members and friends. Partners especially welcome. A seasonal buffet will be provided. The speaker is involved in Formula One as a sponsor of teams and drivers, and now as a team owner. A total commitment to on-track success and a refreshing approach in the paddock has certainly spiced things up! Steve Nevey (Red Bull racing) will regale of the Team's history, describe the technology that is necessary to produce a competitive race car, and will share details of what goes into getting the Team and its entourage around the globe.

Re-arranged from Oct 08, this is a high profile event, with three components: 1 An afternoon with schools/careers and engineering experience opportunities; 2 A lecture from Dr. Norman Price including a strategy briefing for business and engineering leaders; and 3 A networking period, with wine and canapes, where visitors can talk to the event sponsors and funding providers. The expected audience of up to 200 will be able to take part in all three parts, and should : a) discover the opportunities provided by businesses and engineering companies to help youngsters start an engineering career (and how to contribute themselves to this effort); b) understand what can be done locally to improve our businesses in the West Midlands; and c) learn of the funding providers and agencies who can help our engineering businesses become more successful.
