About Us

Preparing for the 2010/11 Season

Dear Colleagues,

I am honoured to have taken over from David Williamson, our Chairman for the past 3 years.

David has provided exceptional drive and commitment to IMechE West Cumbria, spearheading wonderful growth in our Educational activities, and responsible for the highly successful development of our Annual Dinner together with Lakes College West Cumbria.

Our recent dinner included several highlights:

  • The event was a sell-out, for the first time ever.
  • We are delighted to build and strengthen our relationship with the Lakes College West Cumbria, for which our Annual Dinner is a real learning project for many Departments, including catering, hospitality and the arts.
  • Thanks to the generous support of our Sponsors (AMEC, Atkins, Doosan Babcock, Sellafield Ltd and the VT Group), we have raised more funds for our Educational Initiatives than ever before. We will be developing and announcing our full educational programme shortly.
  • We managed to double our attendance from local Secondary Schools, with 9 local schools represented. I have already had an enquiry from one of the schools regarding talks and work experience.
  • As we were able to declare on the night, a staggering £1,545 was donated for our three local charities – again, another record for us.

Our committee is about to takea well-earned break but we will be back with a new events and activities season which will start in September.

We launch on September 16th, 7:30pm at Workington 6th Form Centre with a fascinating talk on Underground Coal Gasification. We will be issuing details of more events shortly, and we hope to see you during the new season.

If you are thinking of becoming a member, or looking to upgrade, please make contact with any of our Committee members or myself – we will be delighted to assist.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Tom Pritt CEng FIMechE  Chairman - IMechE West Cumbria Area
