Message from the Centre Chairman
Dear Colleague
Welcome to the Automobile Division Yorkshire Centre (ADYC). I want to take this opportunity to thank Stuart Allan for his 5 years service as Chairman of the Centre; it is going to be an extremely tough act to follow. I hope that over the next two years I will be able to continue to provide you with a truly exciting programme of events, including another Aston Martin presentation at the fabulous JCT600 Brooklands showroom in Leeds, a world land speed record breaking event and hopefully an exclusive Formula 1 presentation.
For those of you that do not know me, I moved back to the Yorkshire area in 2008 after 10 years at Ford Motor Company in Essex working in powertrain development. Now based in Huddersfield and working for Cummins Turbo Technologies, I have become reacquainted with hills and northern accents (I am originally a Northerner!). I have been involved with the Institution for a number of years, having been on the Essex Centre Automobile Division committee and as Company Based Registration champion at Ford. I also initiated the approval of the Ford Motor Company apprenticeship scheme for EngTech and have since done the same for Cummins Turbo Technologies.
During my time as Chairman, I would like to embrace the digital age and use some of the tools available to us to provide you with up to date information on lectures and events in our region. Watch this space for lectures entering your Lotus Notes or Outlook calenders. For those who prefer traditional methods, programme cards are still core to our communication.
The ADYC actively welcomes schools and those involved in education/careers to apply for our support as well as offers of support from you or your company. If you are interested in supporting us, or presenting at a future event, please contact Charlie Baxter, Regional Admin Officer on 0113 391 0537 or see the Contacts page.
With events planned at the Universities of Leeds and Huddersfield, JCT600 Brooklands Aston Martin, Cummins Turbo Technologies and Ginetta Cars in Leeds, hopefully there is something for everyone. During a credit crunch, who can pass up the offer of a free event?
Please continue to check these pages http://nearyou.imeche.org.uk/uk/york/yadc for event reports throughout the year and details of future events.
Yours faithfully
Andy Hamilton BEng MSc CEng FIMechE MCGI
Events are a mixture of evening lectures and visits and a summer outing for members and their families, which has included the Harewood Motor Show and Kelham Island Museum. Where possible when talks are about new cars we aim to use a venue that can support having the car available to view. In addition the Centre are a major organiser of an internationally renowned Braking Conference (most recently in June 2009).
Generally evening lectures start with tea, coffee and biscuits and there is always an opportunity to ask questions and mingle to continue any discussions started.
Members and non-members are welcome. The majority of events require no pre-booking so you can just turn up on the night bringing your friends if they are interested in the topic.
For information on all events please see the Events pages or contact the Regional Admin Officer.
